Around 2000 people attended the rally tonight at College Green to listen to Jeremy Corbyn and other speakers including MP Diane Abbott, Hibaq Jama (Councillor for Lawrence Hill), and recently elected Labour councillor Kye Dudd. The atmosphere was lively and dynamic. And the crowd was largely young. People responded positively to Corbyn's message of a fair and equitable society.
Thousands of people attended Bristol Pride Parade 2016 on 9 July from Castle Park to Bristol’s Millennium Square with Labour Mayor Marvin Rees at the front showing solidarity along with Bristol's first openly gay Lord Mayor, the former Lord Mayor Peter Main. The atmosphere was wonderful as always, trade union and Labour Party banners were among the thousands celebrating diversity and LGBT rights.
The 172 MPs who organised an abortive coup against Corbyn were branded as “traitors”, while local MP Emma Lewell-Buck came under fire for stabbing Corbyn in the back in the parliamentary vote of confidence and endorsing Owen Smith. As South Shields CLP has been suspended for a number of months, people questioned who Buck is accountable to and on what basis she is making her decisions.
More than 1,500 supporters came to hear Jeremy Corbyn speak at a rally in Brighton and Hove - the human being the Progress plotters tried to break, leader of a party they are bent on destroying. Our city is the epicentre of the battle for the soul of the Labour Party. We cannot – and will not – be defeated.
